The Mike Kosacek Project

Island of Misfit Songs

Thanks for visiting my website.  Here you will find more information about my music.  I had a lot of fun making this music and hopefully it will show.  Thank you very much to all of the friends that helped me out by lending their talents to this CD!

OK, let's get the band name out of the way first...  It was a joke. Someone said, "Why don't you call it The Mike Kosacek Project"... and there you have it.  The title should be obvious once you listen to the CD and see that there is absolutely no continuity, no common theme, maybe even no coherency.  I guess that's just Rock-n-Roll.

Next I need to talk about the lyrics.  Let me just say that any similarity to persons living or dead is purely coincidental!  In other words, it's all made up, in good fun, nothing serious, etc. - in fact most are pure nonsense and dribble.

  Descriptions

New Day -  This is actually the first song I started recording on my Digi001 (Pro Tools --I upgraded to the 002r later on).  I did all the basic tracks, but wanted a real guitar player to play the solos.  Eventually I got my friend Scott Nelson to lay down some really great leads.

Dirty Dog -  The second song I started laying down on the DAW.  I did all of the basic tracks, then got the amazing Paul Haake (from Alibi) to do the awesome guitar solos.

Cold Pfission - This started out as something totally different and stalled out for a long time.   I started working on it again but didn't really like where it was going so I changed directions abruptly (the first step was adding a little synthesizer).   I got my friend and former band mate Keeno Palomino to send me some guitar licks over the internet.  I applied some tortuous effects processing and the rest is history.   Oh yeah, everything else is me.

Never Even Said Goodbye - Again I laid down all of the basic tracks, except for the lead guitar which is again Paul Haake and this time Phil "L.C" Chidester put down some tasty keyboards.

Jello Monkey - Just a dumb made-up word I said to my kids once.  Sounded like a song though...  I laid down the basic rhythm tracks and then just sort of soloed drums over the top.  I brought in Paul Haake on lead wah-wah again and told him to pretend it was one of those marathon Zappa guitar rants...  he delivered quite nicely don't you think?

She's Got What I Need - All me again on the rhythm tracks & vocals, Paul Haake on the lead guitar.

Compromise -  Me again on the basic rhythm tracks and vocals.  I pleaded with Mark Dillon to lend me some of his (awesome) keyboard work and Keeno Palomino again sent me some really cool slide work which was the icing on the cake.

Halford in the Springtime - Well, this one is my ode to Rob Halford (Judas Priest).  It starts out rocking but gets a little weird.  So did Rob.  Wow!  Awesome lead guitar (and some rhythm doubling) by Scott Nelson.  The rest is me.

Grow Up Way Too Fast - It's true you know...  and it's all me on this one too.

Cryin' Again - yessiree, all me again.

Attack of the Pink Flamingos - see a pattern?  it's all me again.  I used to listen to my Dad's old Ventures and Sandy Nelson records.  I love this stuff.  A minimal 4 mics on the drums.  The big guitars are a Tele through Amplitube (software amp modeler).  Hey Q.T., how about using this in the next Pulp Fiction?  please???

Rusty Nail - Probably should have gotten some help, but that's alright, I played it all on this tune too.

Tell Me What I've Done - I did all of the basic tracks for this one too, but I knew I needed something extra for the guitar solos so I asked my friend Murry Woods to do his thing and he did!

Homeless - nope, I had some help on this one.  Thanks to Mark Dillon again for some great Piano and Rhodes (electric piano) tracks.

County Line - Ok, yeah, this one is all me again.  I don't usually do country, but I live in Texas and sometimes you gotta "walk the line".  It's a lot like our state law that says you are required to own a truck.

no ones or zeros were harmed during the recording of this CD--a few may have been manipulated, but even then only slightly...
